Candidates for the 2012 ONS National Election were invited to write letters to the chapters to give some additional insight to why they should be the candidate chosen for office. ***PLEASE NOTE MEETING NIGHT CHANGE for the February meeting only ***

 

The GVONS monthly meeting for February will be Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at the Pomodoro Grill and Wine Bar, 3400 Monroe Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618 at 5:30pm (6:00pm business meeting).  The topic will be Cancer Susceptibility Testing and will be  sponsored by Myriad Genetics (Susan Whelan).  The speaker is Kim Provenzano, NP from the Lipson Cancer  Center.  The meeting is free to GVONS members, non-members: $10.  CEUs will be offered.

 

February Community Service: St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center on South Ave. which provides services for the working poor; those without health insurance. They receive no government support, and are funded only by donations and project grants. At this time, they would appreciate paper towels, toilet paper and laundry soap.  There will also be a cash donations jar for those who would rather donate cash.

The upcoming 2012 dates for the ONS 2-day Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider course to be held at the University of Rochester are February 20th and 27th, June 4th and June 11th, July 25th and 31st (at Highland Hospital) and in late October/early Novemnber.  You can access a copy of the course brochure by clicking here.  Questions about the courses can be directed to Michelle Miller at Michelle_Miller@URMC.Rochester.edu

Chapter Upcoming Events

Chapter meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

Charges for educational dinner meetings for non-members: $10 non-CEU programs, $15 CEU programs.

Scholarships/Awards/New Members

4 $150 educational scholarships (1 each quarter) and 1 scholarship for ONS Congress registration will be awarded in 2011.  CLICK HERE for eligibility criteria and application. Deadline for submission for ONS Congress Registration is March 1, 2011.  General Scholarship deadlines one per quarter are March 1, 2011, June 1, 2011, September 1, 2011 and November 1, 2011. 

GVONS Outstanding Oncology Nurse Award: The Annual Outstanding Oncology Nurse Award recognizes a nurse who has been chosen by fellow GVONS members and colleagues as exemplifying excellence in oncology nursing. The award is given at the annual dinner in October. The new, streamlined application can be accessed by CLICKING HERE.

Oncology Nursing Employment Opportunities

 

Pluta Cancer Center RN Required Full Time, Days

3 to 5 years experience preferred

Oncology experience preferred

Completion of ONS Chemotherapy /Biotherapy Course

Excellent IV skills required

Access devices

The Pluta Cancer Center has an immediate opening for a compassionate RN with 3 to 5 years oncology experience preferred. Excellent IV skills and computer skills are a must as well as experience with access devices. Full time day shift – no weekends. Completion of ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Course. OCN certification a plus or will support certification.

 Interlakes Oncology and Hematology – Per Diem RN 

Seeking qualified candidates for per diem positions, Monday – Friday, 4 to 8 hour shifts.  Candidate will possess 3-5 years of direct oncology experience, excellent IV skills, and admixture experience.  Strong assessment and communication skills required as well as proficiency with working as part of a collaborative team.  ONS Chemotherapy / Biotherapy course and OCN certification preferred.  Send resume to robin.stevenson@usoncology.com
